As we get into the midst of the flu season, the weather continues to fluctuate and our immune systems are getting ready to throw up the white flag. We try to increase our fluid and vitamin intake, while masking everything with over-the-counter medicines. What our bodies may need this fall is a good old-fashioned homemade concoction. If you’re like me and at your wits end with the flu season, try whipping up some of these home remedies in your Salem Station apartment kitchen and let’s hope for the best!
Yep, soup. Mom just may have been right. A recent study shows the chicken soup may actually help relieve symptoms of upper respiratory tract infections. So grab some Campbells soup from the nearest Salem, MA grocer and enjoy! Mmm Mmm good!
Take a day off.
Why push yourself? When you’re sick, stay home from the office and rest. You don’t want to infect your coworkers and risk getting the flu again down the road. Cozy up in your living room on the couch and have a good old-fashioned movie day. Your body fights infection best when you’re at rest. Just go with it!
Steam it up.
Grab a humidifier and turn your apartment into a steam bath. Breathing moist air will help ease your nasal congestion and sore throat. Another option is to boil some water, drape a towel over your head, and breathe in all that steam. Same benefits as a humidifier.
If you don’t have someone to come over and take care of you, dig deep and try to remember someone that owes you a favor. Having someone to tuck you in, bring you fluids, and give you attention will put your mind at ease. The mind can sometimes heal your body and create a comfortable environment. They all factor in to the healing process.
The four tips above are just a few of the home remedies that help battle the flu and cold season. If any Jefferson at Salem Station residents have some family remedies or recipes they’d like to share with the community, please do so in a comment below or on our Facebook Page!
